The exceptional position of Denmark > The Rock Crystal Jewellery from Gotland > The exceptional position of Denmark  |  Print  |  E-mail a friend
Filigree is known in Denmark from the 10th century and the technique was developed in the court of Harald Blue Tooth. Tools found near the castles of Fyrkat and Trelleborg indicate that these centre of administration also were centre of developing designs.

The most important place for production of Jewellery in Jutland was Hedeby. Here has been found 42 Patrice of bronze. To be used for pressing silver and gold plates into different Jewellery that could be decorated with filigree.

But the setting of rock crystal, like our earrings and pendant, is something special and the original rock crystal Jewellery we find in Sweden.

The colorless transparent rock crystal is the cleanest form of quartz that exists. Often they are cut as cobochons. Together with the Russian granulation and the Byzantine filigree, the Gotland Jewellery is truly a piece of cosmopolitan testimony.
