Easter Egg Jewellery > Easter Egg Jewellery  |  Print  |  E-mail a friend
Typical of the work of Carl Fabergé as a jeweler are the small, relatively modest pieces of jewellery such as pendant, brooches, cuff links, bracelets and especially the miniature Easter eggs from this the firm was famous.

At Easter these were given as gifts that were made up into necklaces, added to year by year. They were extremely popular as gifts and were often collected and strong on chains. A single chain might display dozens of eggs.

These miniature eggs, less than 25mm (Lin) high, are splendid examples of craftsmanship. They were often made with brightly colored enamel decorated with precious and semiprecious stones in a variety of designs, frequently celebrating a particular day or commemorating a regiment.

They could also be decorated with flowers and animals and were sometimes made of superbly polished hard stones such as bowenite, rose quartz and chalcedony.

The miniature marvels were popular in Russia in the traditional Easter rituals and also found favour in the sophisticated Edwardian society in England.
