Description:
In the Victorian age the popularity of wearing a locket reached its peak. Often given as a symbol of affection, the locket would contain a miniature portrait, photograph or a lock of hair. Earlier examples from the 16th and 17th centuries were very elaborate, embellished with enamel and precious stones.

The locket replaced the hinged reliquary of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance which usually contained a religious relic.

The box measures 2 cm and the chain 56 cm
